Muzhaqi

Full-stack software engineer with 6 years of experience building mobile, web and cloud applications with React Native, React, TypeScript, Node.js and GraphQL.

I work on Node.js applications and AWS infrastructure at Comcast. On my own time I designed, built and shipped Sous Chef, a React Native app live on the App Store and Google Play.

Featured project Mar 2025 to present

Sous Chef: Pantry & Recipes

A production mobile app on the App Store and Google Play, plus the API, admin dashboard, website and infrastructure behind it. It helps households track food, plan meals and share shopping lists, online or offline.

I own it end to end: product, UI, engineering, releases and operations.

  • Today screen with expiring items, the day's meals and recipes based on the pantry
  • Receipt review screen listing scanned items and prices to add to the pantry
  • Pantry screen listing food by what expires next
  • Pantry, fridge and freezer tracking
  • Expiring and low-stock alerts
  • Recipes matched to what you have
  • Meal plans that fill a shopping list
  • Shared household shopping lists
  • Barcode and receipt scanning

Live on iOS and Android

Local-first writes

A change shows up immediately as an optimistic layer, while the cache holds only what the server said. Writes are saved before they send and replay in order. Client-minted IDs and idempotency keys make a re-send safe, and a refused change is kept for the person to retry or discard. Live updates reach the household over WebSocket subscriptions.

Receipts read on the phone first

The app recognizes the text on the device with Apple Vision and ML Kit, then a rules parser reads it. A reading that adds up stands. Anything else goes to the API, which parses receipts with LLMs and embeddings.

A core that runs without React Native

The data layer, state and domain logic load in Node with no React Native installed, and reach the device only through ports. A test holds that line, so the data layer can be exercised without a device.

One design system

130+ shared components on tokens for color, type, spacing and motion, with light and dark themes, Reanimated and Skia, FlashList, and four languages: English, Spanish, Italian and Albanian.

Rules the tooling enforces

Project rules live in custom ESLint rules and Jest tests, not a style guide. One gate keeps production code at zero React Compiler bailouts, and a rule that depends on a library's behavior cites the version and probe that verified it.

About

I've been passionate about programming for as long as I can remember. In 2019 I quit my job to enroll in Thinkful's coding bootcamp, and within a year I was helping teach the UPenn Coding Bootcamp.

The first Sous Chef was a small app from that bootcamp year. The one on the App Store today is the same idea, built properly.

Aside from coding, I love to travel, explore the world and meet new people. I've been to over 20 countries so far.
